Who Is Jesus?

Everything in the Christian faith stands or falls on one person. So who is Jesus of Nazareth — and why have billions across every culture and century staked their lives on Him?

A real person in real history

Jesus was a historical figure who lived in first-century Israel. Even non-Christian historians of the era refer to Him, His following, and His execution under Pontius Pilate.

He taught with stunning authority, welcomed outcasts, forgave sins, and healed the sick. Crowds followed Him; religious leaders opposed Him; and within a generation His movement had spread across the Roman world.

More than a teacher

Jesus did not merely claim to point the way to God. He claimed to be the way — to forgive sins, to give eternal life, and to be one with God the Father.

These are not the claims of a mere moral teacher. As many have observed, a man who said the things Jesus said is either deluded, deceiving — or telling the truth. His life, His character, and especially His resurrection invite us to take the third option seriously.

He died — and rose again

Jesus was crucified, dead, and buried. But on the third day the tomb was empty, and over many days He appeared alive to His followers — to individuals and to crowds of hundreds.

Those frightened followers were so transformed that most went on to die rather than deny what they had seen. The resurrection is the cornerstone of the Christian faith and the reason for our hope.

In His own words

I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.
John 14:6
I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.
John 8:12
Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 11:28
I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.
John 11:25

To meet Jesus is to meet God reaching toward you. He is not a distant idea but a living person who knows you and invites you, today, to follow Him.
