The Good News

At its heart, the Christian message is not a set of rules or a religion to perform. It is news — good news about what God has done for you in Jesus. But good news only makes sense against the bad news it answers, so here is the whole truth, as simply and honestly as we can tell it.

01God made you and loves you

You are not an accident. A loving God created you on purpose and knows you completely — your name, your story, your fears, and your hopes.

He made you to know Him and to be loved by Him. That relationship is the deepest reason for your existence, and the restless longing in every human heart points back to it.

You formed my inward parts. You knit me together in my mother's womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Psalm 139:13–14

02We turned away — and it costs us everything

The Bible calls our turning away from God 'sin.' It is more than breaking rules; it is living as if God were not there — running our own lives our own way, on our own terms.

Every one of us has done this. And sin is not harmless: it separates us from a holy God, poisons everything it touches, and earns a real penalty. We are each appointed to die once, and after that to face God's judgment — and no amount of good behavior can undo our guilt or buy our way back.

It is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment.
Hebrews 9:27

03Heaven and hell are real

Jesus spoke about eternity more plainly than anyone, and He spoke of two real destinations. Heaven is the unbroken joy of being with God forever. Hell is its opposite — a real and final separation from God and all His goodness, the just end of a life that insisted on living without Him.

This is not a scare tactic; it is the sober truth that makes the rescue urgent. Jesus said the road that leads to destruction is wide and easy, and the road that leads to life is narrow and found by few. He pleaded, 'unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.' If hell were not real, the cross would have been unnecessary. Because it is real, what Jesus did is the best news in the world.

Enter in by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many are those who enter in by it. How narrow is the gate, and restricted is the way that leads to life! Few are those who find it.
Matthew 7:13–14

04God came to rescue us Himself

Here is the heart of the good news: God did not leave us in our predicament. Out of love, He came in person — Jesus, fully God and fully human.

Jesus lived the perfect life we could not live, then willingly went to the cross to take the punishment our sin deserved. He died in our place, paying a debt we could never pay and bearing the judgment that was ours.

But God commends his own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

05The cross and the empty tomb

On the cross, Jesus absorbed the full weight of human evil and made forgiveness possible. But the story did not end there.

Three days later He rose bodily from the dead, defeating death itself. The resurrection is God's public proof that the payment was accepted and that everyone who trusts in Jesus will share in His life.

He was delivered up for our trespasses, and was raised for our justification.
Romans 4:25

06Turn and trust Him — the narrow gate is open

You cannot buy or earn this rescue — and you don't have to. It is a gift. But a gift must be received, and Jesus tells us plainly how: repent and believe.

To repent is to change direction — to turn from going your own way and turn back to God. To believe is not merely to agree that Jesus existed; it is to entrust your whole self to Him as Savior and Lord. This is the narrow gate — and it stands open to anyone, no matter what they have done, who will come.

The time is fulfilled, and God's Kingdom is at hand! Repent, and believe in the Good News.
Mark 1:15

07The road of love — and the reward at its end

Turning to Jesus is the beginning of a new life, not the end of a transaction. Everyone He saves, He changes: He gives a new heart that learns to love God and to love people — even enemies. Jesus said the whole law hangs on two commands: love God with everything, and love your neighbor as yourself.

Two marks of that new life stand out. First, forgiveness: Jesus said that if we forgive others, our Father forgives us — and warned that to refuse to forgive is to forget how much we have been forgiven. Second, faithfulness: the narrow road is walked, not just entered. Nothing done for Jesus is ever wasted; He keeps a reward, a treasure in heaven, for all who follow Him to the end.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart… This is the first and great commandment. A second likewise is this, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'
Matthew 22:37–39

This is the good news, and the stakes could not be higher: heaven and hell are real, our sin had earned us judgment, and we could never save ourselves. Yet God Himself came, died in our place, and rose again — so that by repenting and trusting in Jesus, anyone can pass from death to life. The way is narrow, but it is open, and it leads home. The only question that remains is how you will respond.
