Can God forgive me for what I've done?

If a part of you is sure you've gone too far, please hear this: that is exactly the person Jesus came for. He was known, even mocked, as 'a friend of sinners.' The people he drew near to were not the respectable and self-assured, but the broken, the ashamed, and the ones everyone else had written off.

Forgiveness in the Christian message is not a reward handed to good people; it is a gift given to guilty ones. It is not earned by cleaning yourself up first — you come to God to be made clean, not because you already are. The whole point of the cross is that Jesus took the full weight of human wrong onto himself so that it could be truly, completely pardoned.

That means your past — whatever is in it — is not too much. The shame you carry can be set down. Forgiveness does not mean pretending the wrong didn't matter; it means the price has been paid by someone else, and you are genuinely free. Many who were certain they were unforgivable have found this to be the most real thing that ever happened to them.

Receiving it is simple: admit honestly what you've done, believe that Jesus died and rose to cover it, and ask him to forgive you and make you new. He will not turn you away.

Though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.
Isaiah 1:18
